IDENTIFY AS ALLY

With the Alberta government (and many governments around the world) aiming to mandate that teachers and school administration notify parents when a student asks to identify under a different name than those they are registered as, they effectively out LGBTQ+ students to people the students haven’t felt comfortable to out themselves to, and could put youth at risk of violence, neglect, and homelessness.

This is unacceptable.

Whether you identify as male, female, non-binary, we ask that you do one thing; Identify as an Ally.

How do I Identify as an ally?

STUDENTS:

  1. Below is a PDF that you can download, print off, fill in, and submit to your school to officially request to change your name.
  2. Submit the filled out form to the Principal of your school.
  3. Repeat daily.

The Goal? When 3 students per day do this, it takes about 15 minutes for the principal to notify parents. When  30 students per day do this, it takes a few hours to notify parents. When 300 students per day do this, the system shuts down.

PARENTS:

Be the type of parent that your kids come to when they have questions regarding gender, sex, and mental health.

EVERYONE:
Be vocal and reach out to local members of all forms of government in opposition of these bills.

Take REAL action, even small forms of action, to stand against those trying to oppress individuals in our society.
